BENEFITS
Additional Training Courses
The fire department makes available any training course given by the Middlesex County Fire Academy to active volunteers. These courses cover a broad range of topics including additional firefighting applications, HazMat and rescue courses and EMT certification and are paid for by the department.
LOSAP
LOSAP or Length of Service Award Program provides a "retirement" benefit based on volunteer activity in the department and total length of service. Members become eligible for LOSAP benefits after the completion of 5 years of active service.
Tuition Reimbursement
The Woodbridge Township Council has approved participation in a State of New Jersey plan whereby active volunteers may be eligible for partial tuition reimbursement from approved colleges provided they meet certain requirements. This program is funded by the Township of Woodbridge.
Workmen's Compensation Plan
As a member of fire department, you will be covered by Workmen's Compensation for any injuries sustained while performing firefighting duties.
Life Insurance
Life insurance is provided at no cost to members of the department.
Community Center Membership Discount
The YMCA at the Woodbridge Community Center offers members a 50% discount on membership.

REQUIREMENTS TO VOLUNTEER
Between the ages of 18 and 45
U.S. citizen and resident of Iselin area (Iselin and Colonia)
Complete background check
Valid NJ Drivers License
Pass a physical examination (paid by fire department)
Complete Firefighter 1 training (paid by fire department)
Respond to a certain minimum number of calls per year
VOLUNTEER!! To apply for membership, stop by the firehouse at 20 Auth Ave., call 732-283-1208 or complete the Recruitment Inquiry Form. After your completed form is received, someone from the membership committee will contact you.

ReplyDeleteI can't believe that after all these years Iselin still has a volunteer fire department. I had a cousin named Robert Painter that organized the I think a Drum and Bugle Corp with the fire department back in the 1950's. Congratulations to all those guys past and present for the great service they always provided . Bob Brinkmann
