Iselin's Newest Eagle Scout - Ben Ghiano



Benjamin Ghiano of Iselin was officially inducted into the Rank of Eagle Scout today in a ceremony held at the T. Nulty Post 471 American Legion, on Brown Avenue in Iselin.  He is a member of Troop 523 of Colonia.

In order to attain this rank, Ben needed to work his way through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, 1st Class, Star, and Life; he earned 35 Merit badges; he served in 5 different leadership positions, which included Senior Patrol Leader.  And finally, he completed an Eagle Service Project - working on Camp Kiddie Keep Well in Edison.

Ben's Scouting  activities included camping 132 nights; hiking and backpacking 105 miles; 75 miles canoeing; 7 summer camps, and 3 High Adventure trips.  He also earned the BSA Lifeguard and BSA Kayaking

He has given hundreds of hours of community service, both in and out of Scouting.

Ben's resume is very impressive.  Currently attending St. Joe's in Metuchen,  he has traveled to widely, including a trip to China as a People to People Ambassador in 2008, and as an exchange student to England in 2011 and France in 2012.  He is active in St. Joe's Track in Winter and Spring, and played Varsity Soccer.  He was the Edison Rotary Senior of the Month, and is a member of the Art National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, among other school activities.
