Kennedy Excels
in the THREE A's!

What are the three A's, you ask?
I guess you haven't heard Mr. Cilento's speech, huh?
The three A's are Academics, Athletics and the Arts!

For today, I'm going to brush right past the academics section. Sure, we're A+ there too - but it's a separated story and I'll talk more about that in the next few days, hopefully.

But as for the Arts and the Athletics, wow! The following stories come to you directly from the morning announcements at JFK...

ARTS:
Congratulations to the JFK Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Show Choir! All three groups have returned home with SUPERIOR ratings in our competition held in Williamsburg, Virginia!! Our Concert Choir not only had a superior rating... but placed 1st out of 8 Choirs!

Speaking with Ms. Verrilli this morning, she also made a point of mentioning that not only did the choir do well, but there behavior was admirable. "These kids behaved so well, it was lovely. The whole trip was superior," she said.

ATHLETICS:
There are a few highlights in our Athletics Department. Boys Tennis is still competing, eyeing a championship. One of our Golfers will be the first girl from JFK to golf in the GMC Girl's Golf Tournament. And our track team, still on the run... From the announcement over the JFK PA system:
The Boys Track Team will continue their winning season for at least one more week as they crowned three sectional champions this past weekend at South Plainfield. On Friday, Senior Dante LaVecchia defended his title from last year by placing first in the long jump once again.
Later in the meet, senior Jason Donahue picked up his first sectional title by winning the High Jump with a leap of 6'4". On Saturday, Jason came back to claim his second sectional title by leaping 3'5" in the Triple Jump on his last attempt to win. As a team, the Mustangs placed third overall in the North 2 Group 3 sectional. Other Mustangs claiming medals and moving on to the State Group 3 Championships were:
Luiz Maurina -- 2nd in Pole Vault
Andre Sylvester -- 4th in 200; 6th in 100
Daren Tang -- 4th in High Hurdles; 6th in HJ
Isaiah Claiborne -- 5th in Triple Jump; 6th in Long Jump
Jason Donahue was also 4th in Long Jump.
In Girls Track action, junior Emily Guimaraes tied for 6th in Pole Vault and will compete this Friday in the Girls Group 3 Championships.

  1. Hi Susan.
So who is mr. Cilento? and what about his speech? I love to think it has some meaning for life, as in when a person/society reaches its goals in academics, it's time for athletics,
and when we are all mentally and physically fit, it's time to be creative. which looks like a C but it's really another A, it's art.

  2. Hi Jozien!
Mr. Cilento is our illustrious principal! :D
Actually, he's a good guy, even though he's pretty tough.

He is always saying that at Kennedy they want to promote all three a's at the same time... and I think there are a lot of lessons to learn in each area (although I'm partial to the arts, and lean away from the athletics!) :D
