... HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM TO 7 PM EDT THURSDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM TO 7 PM EDT THURSDAY.
* HEAT INDEX VALUES... SHOULD REMAIN JUST BELOW 100 DEGREES WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, HOWEVER TOP OUT BETWEEN 100 AND 105 DEGREES THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
* TEMPERATURES... HIGHS IN THE MID TO UPPER 90S THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
* IMPACTS... THE WORST WOULD BE FELT BY THOSE WHO LIVE AND/OR WORK IN THE MORE URBAN AREAS AND AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE COAST. THOSE WHO ARE AT A GREATER RISK INCLUDE THE ELDERLY, THE INFIRM AND CHILDREN.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS, STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM, STAY OUT OF THE SUN, AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.
TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE, RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITY TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK, THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY - CALL 9 1 1.
In Iselin, if you don't have air conditioning, the place to go during the hottest part of the day is the Iselin Library. I remember when I was a little kid-- going to the library during the summer - it was always so cool there! I also like to go to Woodbridge Center. The important thing, though, is to check on the old people you know, who might be tempted to just sweat it out - or who may not be able to get to cooler places.
